►Introduction to Counseling
What is a counseling?
Everyone gets upset from time to time, but it can be difficult to talk to family members and friends, especially if you don't know who else to turn to. Counseling provides the opportunity to speak with a professionally trained psychologist who will listen to your inner worries in an uninterrupted space, helping you to see yourself, organize your thoughts, and clarify your feelings and emotions. This can help you to gradually get to know yourself better, develop a more nuanced view of the world or the future, and gain more energy and resources to cope with life's challenges, in order to embark on a path of change.
Not at all. Anyone can come to counseling whenever they have a concern and need to talk to someone. Counseling is a form of self-help and care that anyone can benefit from.
Counseling is a journey of self-searching and change. When you come to counseling to work through your worries, you can learn more about yourself and develop the strength to keep moving forward. Even though worries may never disappear completely, and there will always be new challenges, counseling can help you develop the flexibility and resilience to cope with them effectively, and find joy in the journey of life.
1. After scheduling a counseling session, you will have six to eight weekly 50-minute sessions with your counselor.
2. If you are unable to attend the session for any reason, please contact the center at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule or cancel (center TEL: 02-2896-1000 ext. 1342). If you do not submit a leave request or miss the session twice without a valid reason, the Center will cancel your previously arranged sessions and you will need to reschedule.
3. Counseling services are free for our students and faculty members.
1. Your conversations with your counselor are generally kept confidential, and your personal data and conversation details will only be disclosed to necessary parties with your permission.
2. However, it is important to note that there are some exceptions to confidentiality.
According to the ethical guidelines, there may be a need to break confidentiality in cases where there is danger to a person’s own or others' life, freedom, or property; or there is legal liability (e.g., Child/Youth Welfare Law, Genetic Health Act, Domestic Violence Prevention Act, Gender Equity Act, Education Act).
Counseling can be helpful for a variety of reasons. If you are struggling to cope with difficult situations, or suddenly feel depressed or down and don’t know why, or you are unable to talk to people about something that is bothering you, and you need someone to listen to you. In addition to facing a challenge alone or talking to friends and family, counseling can be a great option.
Maybe you are also going through these experiences:
Chatting is spontaneous, often without a specific purpose, while counseling is a goal-oriented and planned discussion to clarify and help you deal with problems according to your expectations and needs.
